Wallington Boys - SET cutoff

Post by fingerscrossed1 »

Does anyone know the SET pass mark for Wallington Boys? Just heard my son didn't pass Sutton and now putting all our hopes on Wallington. Trying to understand the SET scores and how this compares to the Wallington SET pass mark.
Thanks

I don't know the answer to this but just wanted to say that we're in the same boat. If anyone knows more about this, that would be really useful.

There was a post recently that said that the number of boys passed for WCGS was 978. Does this help ?

If you don’t mind doing some searching, there was a member last year who posted her son’s scores having not passed the second stage, then helpfully came back and reposted them when they got an offer from Wally Boys.

That's great thank you all.

Do you know how you can compare the standardised score to the SET score. Been checking against a excel spreadsheet found online and my sons date of birth doesn't match the standardised score so therefore I must need to convert it somehow to the SET score - any help greatly appreciated.

The SET score is restandardised for the marking of the second test. From memory, the email the poster received from the school after the second stage gave four scores, two of which were the restandardised ones from the SET. Again from memory, they were around 96, meaning her son’s SET score was a few marks below the mean when compared with those sitting the second stage. Did you get marks like that?

Thanks so much for all the information, that's really helpful. Like others, I'm really struggling to understand the SET score, standardised score, etc. It's so confusing!

I also can't find the poster who someone mentioned posted her son's scores last year - does anyone know her name or can link to the thread?

Thanks again for any help you can give.

Sorry, it might have been a couple of years ago... I remember seeing it when looking for something else but can’t remember much more than the above.

The link above also shows the lowest SET score offered a place by WCGS. They don’t seem to be too far off the pass mark in previous years, so odds seem good.

That's what I thought when I looked at the link - that the lowest score offered a place was very close to the pass mark. Can that really be right? It's great news if it is, but if they pass nearly 1000 and only have spaces for 150, it seems a bit odd.
