gcse atronomy
My daughter is in a state school. she is intersted in choosing astronomy as a GCSE subject.
Her school does not offer astronomy as an option.
Would it be feasible to study as a private student?
Could anyone with similar experience advice
many thanks

Hi ram
I have replied on another strand. It is possible to do it (my DD did it last year in yr9 on a 2 year course off her own back) but I doubt she would recommend it unless she is a conscientious and motivated student who is happy to tackle a subject with little/no help (apart from a textbook) and there is quite a lot of GCSE Maths involved. Sorry if that's not the answer you were looking for, but I think a school that offers it would be a far better and more enjoyable option!

I was planning to do it - one of the local schools ran some classes for adults - the main problem at the time was the coursework which had to be written up in class time + the data collection time.
I know some pupils who like Astronomy did EPQs in year 11 in a related topic

Hi ram,
One of DD’s school friends sat the Astronomy GCSE last year (year 9). She did well. Her preparation involved one to one tuition for at least part of the time but she is also a well organised and highly motivated self starter.
