Perhaps they missed out the £10 Jim can earn by doing his younger brother's maths homework!

I would have said the answer was £2.46.
(5/7 + 2/2 +1/4 + 0.5)
I suppose he could RECEIVE £8.50 in one day if they all paid him on the same day, but I wouldn't say that he EARNED that amount in one day.
