Hi,

My son says there are 2 adverbs in the below sentence.

She quickly ate her dinner and ran out.

1) quickly and 2) out

But I think out is a preposition. Can anyone help to understand this, please?

Thanks

I think, and am very prepared to stand corrected, that the only adverb in that sentence is quickly. I used to remember adverbs as being words that describe HOW something is done, and 'out' does not do this.

Thank you Both.

Looks like "Out" can be used as adverbs and prepositions.

Looks at the sentence below...

"He took out a pair of socks." - Because out takes the object "a pair of socks", out is a preposition in this sentence.

"He took out." - Because there is no noun after out, out is an adverb

Please correct me if I am wrong ?
