Way off or on track?

Post by Taz1981 »

Hi,

My daughter has done a few CGP 11 + practise papers and I wondering what type of percentages she needs to be getting to be offered a place in any of the Trafford schools.

She is averaging around 50% on the English and 75% on the Math

No
Set B Paper 1

Section 1 - 8/16
Section 2 - 5/10
Section 3 - 5/20
Section 4 - 8/12
Section 5 - 26/37

52 / 95 = 55%

Set B Paper 2

Section 1 - 8/12
Section 2 - 15/18
Section 3 - 35/50

58 / 80 = 72.5%

Hi Taz1981,

I personally think this year is going to be difficult to predict what the raw % pass mark might look like due to the impact lockdown has had on children's education. Some children would have benefitted from being home schooled by their parents and exceeded by just focusing on the 11 plus contents/ papers and nothing else. Other might have struggled and not reached the standards they were capable of achieving. Parents who would normally have paid/ relied on tutors to see their DC through might have found it difficult to juggle working from home and home schooling/ tutoring. Children who have had to change to online tutoring might not have responding the same way if they had continued with face to face tutoring ect. And most importantly you also don't know what the impact of being away from school / returning back to school (with the uncertainty that bubble/ cohorts could still find themselves being placed in lockdown again) is going to have on children's ongoing mental health and wellbeing needs. Too many different factors come into play this year that would not normally have materialised.

Agree with scooby1. It's difficult to predict this year. My daughter is sitting it this year and she is getting similar results for maths on the CPG practise papers. Her VR scores are also around the same mark. These papers are difficult, her scores vary according to what was in the individual papers...she is good at cloze, often getting nearly 100%, but the synonyms/antonyms are hard and she might drop down to about 60%.
My son sat it last year, got average scores of around 75%-85% in the CPG tests and scored highly for all the grammars...if that's helpful to you.

Thank you, I was just worried that she may be way off and people were averaging 90%+ in the CGP tests. Haven spoken to a lot of parents in school today, I have found out that a lot of students have been getting tutored almost 5 days a week thought covid specifically for the entrance exams.

It looks like you are doing Pack 3. Here are my DD (passed AGGS and Sale in 2018) results from the same paper for you to compare. Like others have said - all benchmarks of what a 'good' mark is have gone out of the window this year. But it may give you some idea.

Set B Paper 1

Section 1 - 7/16
Section 2 - 5/10
Section 3 - 6/20
Section 4 - 10/12
Section 5 - 33/37

61 / 95 = 64%

Set B Paper 2

Section 1 - 9/12
Section 2 - 18/18
Section 3 - 32/50

59 / 80 = 74%
