Where to relocate for QE boys easy commute

Post by Sp007 »

My son may get a place in Qe boys as scores for 2021 entry are out and looks promising. Need advice on where to relocate so that we do not miss on after school activities or school events. I travel south of London and DH near Stevenage.
We feel public transport may not suit DS atleast for the initial couple of years and us dropping/picking everyday from school doesn’t seem feasible. We won’t mind school coach and occasional drop off/pick ups. How many days does QE has afterschool activities? Is there any better transport option if we choose place like bushey or Borehamwood or Pinner ? Suggestions on a decent place to live considering our situation is appreciated. Thanks

Lots of activities EVERY DAY. Especially if your son is picked for the rugby squad.

School bus from Bushey / Pinner means you'll have to pick up after the activity.

Borehamwood is a short bus ride away on public transport, and there are plenty of QE boys, from year 7 upwards, on the bus.

There are also a lot of boys coming on the bus from Hatfield where there is also the alternative of getting the train and then a bus from the station. DG

Lots of year 7s across the country will be using public transport to get to and from school (although admittedly less at the moment due to covid).

Your little year 6 might seem ‘too little’ for this right now (I know, I felt the same back then, and many parents do) but unless there’s specific reasons why he might struggle where others don’t, then trust me, he will be fine on the bus or train. Year 7s grow up very quickly in their first few weeks and embrace their new found independence. Being able to do after school activities is (or should be) part and parcel of school life and he will be able to if he isn’t reliant on private school transport, and your life will be much easier if you don’t have to ferry him around too.

Hello

Many congratulations on your DS results. I just wanted to list some of the after school activities that can help you make an informed decision. All school coaches depart the school within 20 minutes or so from 3:35. If you DS takes the school coach, he won't be able to attend any after or before school clubs. There are plenty of clubs and activities during lunch breaks so there will be a lot of choice available. After school activities include paid activities like chess club, lambda, fencing, mandarin etc. However there are a few free activities as well like Elizabethan debating club etc. There are some compulsory after and before school activities for example if your son is selected for rugby set 1,then he will have to attend extra practice twice weekly after school. Swimming / polo team practice before school. Likewise if your DS is selected for a part in a school play then he has to participate in rehearsals run after school. If your son is chosen for any of these compulsory activities, then he will have to attend. The school believes that it is an honour to represent the school in debate or rugby and if chosen you will have to attend.

When relocating, ideally there should be a no change public transport link to the school like a direct bus route will certainly help.

Best of luck for your move.

Choose a school which is also near Stevenage or your work place, South of London. Makes life easy.

There is a school bus service 606 that runs from Queensbury via Edgware to QE. Worth considering properties along this route.

Where are you at the moment? Is a school involving a house move really the best option you have?

In any case , we were planning to move from where we are so school is not the only factor. Do you have any suggestions on where to move ?
