KE Aston/Handsworth Boys-2021
What do the good people on this forum think are the chances of my DS getting into KE Aston/Handsworth Boys with a non-PP/OOC score of 218?
I know 213 was enough to get into these schools last year. But worried about the impact of 30 seats less at CHB compared to last year.

I think you have a decent shot at getting into at least one of those schools with that score - good luck.

Hi, list schools in your true order of preference. Your son has achieved the qualifying score so you will loose nothing by putting the schools on the CAF as long as you have included non grammars that your son would be close enough to be offered a place.

+1. Great advice.Nella wrote:Hi, list schools in your true order of preference. Your son has achieved the qualifying score so you will loose nothing by putting the schools on the CAF as long as you have included non grammars that your son would be close enough to be offered a place.
imranb as you mentioned last year cat 5 score of 213 was offered so there is a good chance that you DS with score of 218 will be offered a place. Also worth noting cat 5 place for KE Aston was offered as well but it appears this was because of older sibling at same school.

Cat 5 offer at Aston at 213 in March and I suspect fell lower by Sept 1st. I know a 212 was offered at Handsworth in June so again probably fell again by September.
Both are good options for 218 but also weigh up transport journey time and logistics before commuting your DS to a long commute for many years.
Also be on the safe side and list in your true preference making sure you have a realistic non grammar as a lower choice on your CAF.

218 also got offered vesey last year. We expected that score not to stand a chance but got Aston on offer day followed by vesey. I think last year people have been less inclined to send their children to independant schools too. I cannot stress enough to put your schools in your true order which includes a non selective school that you are within catchment for. Our local comp was always 6th place 'just incase'

very hard to know what will happen as last year was the first year of the new system, I suspect some parents either thought they couldn't put KE schools on the CAF if they scored < 222 or at least didn't stand a chance of getting a place so used up the slot for elsewhere. This year there may be more who realise that there is a chance and that might affect the numbers
