Last year was 212 out of 500 wasn't it? So
It is higher but not as large as first impression.

In 2018, there were 170 out of catchment candidates, in 2020 - 212. So the number increased by about 20 for the last couple of years. This year's increase by over 100 is certainly large and unexpected.

was it out of 212 out of 500 in 2020? and this year is 318 out of 650.

If that is correct, 42% last year and 48% this year.

My DC's rank was in 500-550, but it moved up by less than 200 places - nowhere close to the 48% that 318 out of 650 suggested...
Perhaps, 318 is not out of 650 but out of 700+ (remember those 200 late sitters?). Plus, they might have added music and EHCP candidates to the revised ranks.

it could suggest as you say they have added music and EHCP candidates to the revised ranks. I have no idea how these promoted places work just that they are included in the 197

It could also be that the distribution of OOC is skewed to the lower end. OCC are concentrated at 550+

I haven't heard back yet about my DC

Mine was similar and moved by a little under 200 places. So with her revised ranking, she would have got in last year but not the previous year, so we'll just have to wait and see. In a way it's a good thing as we put Latymer first but are not sure whether we would rather go to our local school, due to convenience and local friends. So at least if we're offered a place later, we have the opportunity to choose.

My Dc went up by about 80 so I think OCC are quite light in numbers under 300s

It is also possible that there will be more revisions upwards as people withdraw/omit Latymer as a choice before march
