Word Progression
Please can anyone help I'm working with the 10 minuite bond tests for verbal reasoning and am a bit stuck on test 6 Word Progressions. Can anyone explain the method simply to me. I can see how the answer has been arrived at from the words given, but I'm finding it difficult to work out the method used. Is there a a et way each time?
Sorry if I sound a bit stupid but I don't want to ask my son to do these until I can clearly see the method myself. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks best for son

Hi,
So using the first question as an example
FARM ------- HARK
Firstly figure out which letters remain the same - so here it is AR
so the new word would have to have AR in it in the same order
then use process of elimination.
As you can only change one letter at a time if we changed the F to the H the new word could be HARM,
if we kept the F and changed the M to the K then the new word would be FARK
so then we need to see which of the 2 new words HARM or FARK is an actual word
in this case it would be HARM.
I hope that m akes sense.
Regards

Thanks Coolmum for your reply and great explanation. How silly I feel now as the method seems really straightforward.
Today I sat with my son and gave him the test to complete, waiting for him to ask for help. I felt even more silly as he started writing the correct answers. I asked him to tell me how he had worked these out and he said "Mum its a bit tricky to explain but I just know". How lovely, but I felt a bit useless and surplus to requirements.
Thankyou again for your kind help, I think next time I'll try and have more faith in my son he obviously knows more than I do!!
Love

Hi bestforson,
Don't feel like that! That's what this forum is here for! I have posted so many questionsit's unreal!!
I have felt like that loads of times although it's usually in Maths - where DS rolls his eyes and explains to me why his answer is right and mine isn't!!
I too have learned to have faith in them the hard way!!!

Hi Coolmum,
Thanks for your message. Its nice to know lots of us are going through the same things.
I'll feel even better after the 18th and 19th of September when it will all be over, or maybe thats when the panic really sets in!!
Take care and thanks again.
