HBS Round 2 results - no Bands this year

Post by Worry_mom »

Hello Parents,

Until 2019 HBS used to allocate bands as outcome of stage 2 exams. The bands gave good indication of where DD stands in terms of outcome. However, it seems they have stopped doing this since last year (exams were late last year due to COVID and probably did not matter much since CAF was submitted before exams). But they do not plan to send out the bands this year.
We understood that for top rated schools like Tiffin Girls and HBS, all places are 'filled' by the candidates who provide these as first preference in CAF.
Any advise on how to prioritize schools on CAF would be helpful.
Note: Request you to please not consider moving to a new area in the advice since we have already considered that and it is not relevant for our scenario.

This is not really correct. You must put the schools down in your genuine order of preference. They do not know where you have put them on the form, and you will be allocated the highest school on your CAF that you qualify for.
Have you read the admission criteria for HBS?
From memory, when they did issue bands it gave people false hope of gaining a place and so people were sometimes disappointed having thought that they were more or less guaranteed a place. They also introduced a priority area so this will have meant that the bands were no longer relevant.

ETA: there is some information here about the equal preference system
