The missing numbers should be firstly 18 then 28 then 8. For some reason they are not coming out. Hope you can still understand the questions.

These types of questions often use a number operation followed by a 'tag' - ie, a number simply added to the final answer. They seem arbitary, but a sound knowledge of tables moved us on with this. If it's any help, these did not appear in the NFER paper for Lincs this year.

Can help with the second one

Answer is 56

Sume is Left/2 x Right

i.e 24 divided by 2 times 6 is 72
18 divided by 2 times 7 is 63

so missing number is 14 divided by 2 times 8, i.e 7x8, which is 56
Still working on the first one

The Tutors Paper 4B Q40

Post by forumadmin »

Hi Patricai & Laura,

We have checked the e-papers.

In the E-Papers Q40 also says:

54 [37] 17 and 56 [38] 18

59 [?] 28

Therefore the answer is 31 (subtracting Right from Left to give Centre number).

I have checked the E paper 4B again and my version for question 40 shows the first number in the brackets is [63] not [37] as you have said. The answer on the answer sheet is 31 no wonder we couldn't work it out, I must have an older version that has since been corrected. I downloaded the papers sometime ago.
