And the waiting begins again...

Post by sportsforall »

Seems like only five minutes ago we were waiting to see if DD1 would make the cut for grammar, and I now realize how blissful Y7 - 10 was :D

Here we are again waiting for university offers, I am trying my best to be a swan, serene on the top and flapping on the bottom! Some of her cohort have already received offers, and DD has just had acknowledgements and I have been hassling her to keep an eye on emails as young people seem to forget to check emails. Even when the offers come in I have to find the patience to wait for the results. I have trouble waiting for a kettle to boil. Thank goodness my DD is far more laid back.

Oh time flies..... yes the "there is an update on your UCAS account" messages start   and the one you want is always the one to take the longest to make a decision

Yes...time has flown...we're at the start of y12 but it already feels like we're on the train to University...totally agree we / our children don't enjoy y7-10 enough!....Offers received already...wow...I thought they would come in after Xmas....I'm going to need to get up to speed with how things have changed!

Nagging DC to look at email is common here too....chasing down medical work experience....there are so many hoops for them to jump through!

Some universities operate a strict(ish) 'gathered field' system, not actually communicating decisions until after the UCAS deadline in January (apart from mainly 'no's to those nowhere near the published typical offer). Sometimes well after. Some / many / most, from experience, have an idea how many applications they will receive and of what calibre, and will offer much sooner. Also each department may have a different policy/ different courses historically have different application statistics etc.

All three of ours submitted their application during November in their application year. DS1, applying for Biochemistry, definitely had five offers before Christmas; DD (IR and / with French) was still waiting at the end of April for a decision from one of the same universities. DS2's Hostory of Art offers came in somewhere in between- but his offer from the aforementioned University definitely came within nearer to DS1's timescale than DD's. He had been engaging with the department's programme of online discussion groups, which may have helped.

ah. My DD1 is aiming to submit hers towards the end of November, partly because she wants to finalise which course her personal starement is targetted at. She wants quite a niche course so the one-statement-covers-all-courses thing isn’t ideal.

Feeling exactly the same! DS has already received two offers but still waiting for the one he wants the most.

The offers in this household definitely arrived in reverse order of popularity, I think we were well into March before the last one came in both cases

@hermanmunster ... funny you should say that, first offer in here and it is last choice :D

Waiting to hear on Cambridge interview which she is woefully underprepared for and is super shy so not holding out much hope there. It will all be on the middle three!
