Hello all

My son has passed Bucks but my question is regarding DCGS. There is a peculiar requirement of the school to have sold your property in 20miles radius of school by 31st Oct 23 to be eligible for the 1st round of allocation.
We live in Amersham but our property is still under the process of getting sold..
Questions:
1. By what time should the property be sold to b eligible for 2nd round of allocation? Is there a deadline for the same?
2. From the previous years, does anyone has knowledge if all people in 2nd list were offered admissions and there was also a 3rd round?

Looking forward to answers as it’s very stressful currently

if you already live in Amersham but have only just moved specifically to be in cachement for DCGS and not completed, then you can’t assume you’ll get the school allocated at all. This is the high risk strategy of “moving by the deadline” right at the last minute to a desirable school, when you weren’t local to the area before (sorry).

it isn’t a peculiar requirement, it is because of past address fiddling to gain places at DCGS. Before this policy, people who are genuinely local residents in the area lose out on places each year because a few parents buy eg a one bedroom flat 200 yards from the school, when their actual family home is a 5 bedroom house 15 miles away. they then “claim a place” because they live so super nearby, and then don’t live in the flat (or donso for a few months to show how cloae they are, then “move back” to their original house and child commutes to the school from afar.
The genuine residents who have lived 2 miles away for a decade then don’t get a place at the school.

the only way the school can stop this from happening is to insert a “you can’t own two properties at once near here”. the 20 mile limit is presumably because very few people would be daft enough to commute from >20 miles daily with their DC.

Here are the past allocations data for DCGS:
2021 entry:
March 1st catchment (5) to 7.348 miles
April: catchment (5) to 7.631 miles
May: catchment to 0.944 miles
Final: catchment to 7.489

2022 entry:
March 1st: catchment to 5.092 miles
April 1st: 5.131 miles
16 May: 0.420 miles

2023 entry:
Mar 1st: 6.072 miles
12 May (2nd round): 7.027 miles
There would have been a third round at the end of June, and then every 3 weeks after that where places became available, but I don't have that information. You could ask Buckinghamshire Council.

Note that from 2023 there is no second round of allocations on April 1st for people moving late, this is only for reallocation of rejected places to those with an on time application and having moved by the required date..
