GL exam

Post by Sheb89 »

Hi all, please could someone shed some light on the GL exam layout for trafford schools? I understand pupils have to sit two 1 hour papers, is one exam VR and NVR together and the other Maths by itself?

Many thanks in advance!

There is some information on the Altrincham Boys Grammar website herethat states
Each paper is divided into three subject areas: Verbal Reasoning; Non-Verbal Reasoning; and Mathematics.

According to this info from Stretford, two of the Manchester schools are seperate and NOT in the 5- school Trafford consortium: (Loreto and St Ambrose presumably run their own seperate exam). Stretford does say that The GL paper is written specially for Trafford.

This is the Stretford school website info for 2024 entry about GL for the consortium:

The new Trafford GL exam is as you said: 2 x approx. one hour papers - but mixed subjects (unlike some other 11+ areas) = any one of those papers can test several subjects/skills.
The subjects are in separately timed sections and it is likely that the content, i.e. the subjects in each paper, will remain mixed and unpredictable in the future.
