Does anyone know what it was at roughly the same time point in previous years?

This is a post from almost exactly a year ago today

Good luck to anyone left on the waiting list now. This may be the last movement but hopefully not.

If it is then the ranks will only have moved 5 places this year as Rank 107 was not on the list so either did not apply or ranked DAO lower than another school.

Gone are the days when it moved 12 plus places every year.

This is a move of 20 ranks from allocation day but we do not know how many ranks were already gone because their owners did not
apply or ranked another school higher.

Last year we were that family ranked 117 and 1st on the waiting list between June and October. At the open day in July, we were told by the admin office that she school usually accepts more students than there were places as a few would drop off last minute (like airplanes overbook flights) and that we should hence not expect to hear from be the school before start of term. On 3 October we were offered a place.

That was a long wait. Glad you were finally offered a place. I hope your DC is enjoying their time at the school. No state school is able to offer more places than they have in the hope that some will drop off. Every school has a PAN, published admission number, and that is the number of places they can offer. The only time a school has to go over PAN is if they have students who win appeals for places at the schools. Then the waiting list will be frozen until all the spaces required for appeals won have been allocated from spaces that come up when parents turn them down.

That may be so, but it appears that some do indeed over offer in March each year - sometimes there are admin errors that have led to people being missed off the original allocation and have to be allocated within days and also in some cases it appears to be policy (via comments to parents from admissions staff) to over offer a bit as they know that many will decline.

The truth is that we really don't know what the numbers are in those first few weeks until the waiting lists are compiled and we (or don't see) some movement

https://www.hertfordshire.gov.uk/me ... l.pdf (p.34)

This appears to indicate that only 200 initial offers were made (which tallies with the information on the school's own 'how places were allocated' document).

Whereas Mount Grace made 125 (PAN+5) offers, which included 31 Non Ranked Allocations. Wonder whether DAO was approached to take some of those, but refused.

@toadmum I know a couple of the mums of the non ranked mount grace children and they were really unhappy that they went over the PAN. We had a similar situation with this cohort in 2017 on reception entry, there wete not enough places and one school put on a boom class to include 30 non ranked allocations.

DAO allocations have now reached Rank 122 which is 24 ranks beyond the last allocation offered on March 1st.

The Music ranks are on Rank 14.
