I sat down and worked through chunking method today and I have decided I LOVE it!!

Great - it follows on well from using the blank number line.

Obviously at some point you have to tackle short division - but if pupils understand the process they can see this is just a 'compact' from of chunking.

it leads really well into long division doesn't it?


I am a natural LD person, I learnt that first and then switched schools where they did short division, I have a mental block there ever since! :oops:

(I was 8 and they laughed at me...)

DD has just done this with her tutor - school has not got there yet. She's got it first time and says it's 'pips'.

I'm a convert too!!! :D :D :D

shows that division is just repeated subtraction.

Hi there
Would someone be kind enough to spell out how to do the 'chunking' method of Long division, so I can go over it with my DC - I think she's covered it at school, (now Yr5) but "can't remember" Any help much appreciated!
