Christmas present suggestions for animal lover...

Post by Ed's mum »

Can anyone think of some good ideas (especially if they are very specific) for a present for a ten year old girl who is animal-mad and incredibly caring.

We were thinking of animal adoption or membership of something...
She is distraught at the moment as her favourite pet rat died yesterday and she was the one who discovered it after her piano lesson.

A present which would last a year would be excellent - like regular magazines or newsletters or something.

I am hoping to hear from someone who has bought a gift along these lines. If you are worried that your post may constitute advertising, I am more than happy to receive PMs.

Thanks in advance!

My daughter had magazines from the RSPB for a couple of years as a present - they do a children's mag called "Bird Life" . There may be something similar from other wildlife/ geographical societies with a children's membership. Alternatively, there used to be a magazine on sale at the newsagents called "Animals & You" aimed at this age group - I presume you could get a subscription to that (full of fluffy bunnies I seem to remember...)

If you are near Twycross Zoo, why not look at sponsoring an animal there?

http://www.twycrosszoo.com/sponsorouranimals.htm

She can then visit with her friends and say "that is my animal". :D

Oxfam has range for animal lovers http://www.oxfam.org.uk/shop/results.as ... imalLovers

Best be quick lots of the animals are LIMITED!

WWF lets you adopt something a little more exotic https://secure.wwf.org.uk/adoption/ and is probably more child friendly.

Super suggestions. Thank you all.

I had not considered Twycross or the SeaLife Centre!! More likely to choose the zoo as I cannot abide the journey into Birmingham (no offence meant to anyone!)

I shall go and look at these sites now...

Go exotic with the WWF:

I've always, always, always wanted my own Orang-Utan.

If this is for your DD then maybe you could book her into one of these pny weeks where they groom them, feed them, clean out the stables and ride them, and probably for a small amount adopt a horse from another organisation or donkey sanctuary to tie in with this gift.

If its not for your DD then this gift is quite expensive so something like this link below may be more suitable:

How about an annual subscription to the RSPCA's Animal Action magazine which is aimed at animal friendly under 13's?
