First timer - Need Advice

Post by Sindy »

Thank you everyone for all the help and advice running up to the 11+.

Have received results today for the slough concortium and have missed by 7 marks.

Could someone please advice if it is worth appealing.

Thanks

I take it that the score was averaged out at 104.

To take the result to appeal you would have to show excellent academic achievement at school. Predicted SATS grades of at least 5, 5, 4 and a reason why the pass rate was not achieved. Was there a marked difference in the VR & NV scores or were they roughly the same?

We're in a similar position. Our son scored 111 which is a pass but certainly too low to get into Langley based on previous results.

However his scores were 120 NVR and 101 VR, which is why I'm puzzled because in all his practice papers he scored higher in verbal!

At school he has always been ahead of the curve in literacy and is predicted to get a 5A and/or 5Bs in his SATS.

We won't get the Slough results until next week, but is it worth appealing:

a) based on his academic record and the NVR score?

b) If the VR score from Slough is markedly higher?

Any advice would be most welcome.

Thanks

Thank you Chad for replying.

The scores were NVR 99 and VR 108 and averaged at 104.

She is showing 3 5s in her cat results taken this year and last year she was 5 5 and 4a.

She also had her tonsils removed in August this year which I feel have been giving her trouble all year. It is reported in her school report that her absences over last year have affected her work.

She is also in a private school. She was awarded a 50% scholarship from year 1.

Willing to provide any other info if it helps.

Hi, do you know if the private school prepared them for the Slough exams at all with mock tests etc the same way the local state schools would have?

Hi Bromley

Yes she was given mock tests at the school which she had no trouble passing. However on the day on the 11+ she found out that the fomat for the NVR was different to what she had been used to.

She took the test in 10 minute slots and was not allowed to go back to any missed questions. This was not what she was used to. The teacher on the day of the test was also not aware till she opened the envelope to administer the exam.
