Dear Watford Parent.
This will probably totally confuse you, but I will have a go at answering your question.
If you have a look at the words, there are 2 of them with 'a' in 2nd place. then if you look at the numbers, you also have 2 of them with '4' in the 2nd place. Again, the 't' and number '7' seem to correspond at the end.
By substituting these letters and numbers you can work out what else goes where. You may think this takes longer than a minute (it does), but then you will have 3 more questions on this particular code, which are then very easy to answer because you have cracked the code. Practise them - it gets easier.
I hope someone else can come along and simplify it - I havent explained it very well, but I hope you get the gist of what to do.

PALM LAST ROSE MEAT

I'd love to know the answer to this as it has got me quite stuck!

'a' (2 of) and 't' (2 of) are 4 and 7 as above
'l' (2 of) is in 1st and 3rd places so is 5
's' (2 of) is in 3rd and 3rd places, cannot be 4 or 5 so must be 3
LAST=5437
'e' (2 of) is in 3rd and 2nd places so is 6
MEAT=*647 (so must be 8647)
If 'm' is 8, PALM should be *458 (can't be as one code is 1456)
ROSE must be the missing code - **36 - how do we get 'r' and 'o'?
I may be being dim but I cannot see it. Any answers?

You won't need to get 'r' and 'o'. Any questions will be related to the codes which are representing the words, not the missing one.

Hi

Look under "verbal reasoning"

"yet another question for Patricia" posted by Josh

There is a systematic way of answering these questions.
