Congrats to everyone as well as their DDs and DSs. In the midst of your celebration, please spare a thought for those with no offers at all. If you are holding more than one offer (your child can only go to one school) do please immediately contact the schools whose offers you are unlikely to accept. This way, those on reserve list have a chance of some celebration too...

I do agree with you, but it is possibly a bit early for this kind of plea? Results are still coming in and it is not unreasonable to take the weekend to make final decisions - however, it helps no-one to hold on to multiple offers for much longer than that!!

Many people following this forum will receive no offers at all. We often don't hear from them as sharing disappointing news is extremely difficult so many choose not to post at all. Very much feeling for those who fall in this category....

It is nowhere near as bad as holding onto a state school offer until September 'just in case' ...

If finances are so borderline then Private schools shouldn't be considered at all.

We are holding multiple offers. We have already notified Highgate and jls we will not be accepting. I hope that helps still someone.

Some people will be able to remember the days when the state system could also allow more than one offer to be made, also when those who had ranked a school first on their list would be considered first and so on. Here in the 'Indie' section, someone will soon offer the advice that if your child is on a waiting list for an independent school, you should contact the school to tell it that it is your top choice and you would say yes immediately to an offer, which will get the admissions officer to move you straight to the top of the waiting list (indies don't have all that having to maintain lists in oversubscription criteria order you see. Or publish oversubscription criteria at all). Some people think that that system should be brought back - every year there will be somebody who managed to fill n their CAF without understanding that they will only get one offer, however many schools their child may qualify for, and who thinks that this is grossly unfair. To their child, anyway. But in the independent sector, if you've paid your money to twelve schools for your child to take their entrance test, it's only fair that you should possibly end up with all twelve to choose from. Plus that one state place to keep in reserve.

We have only just received our offers and are weighing up costings before deciding. I would not intentionally hold multiple offers. Only we've only just began this conversation as I refused to discuss until we had concrete offers.

I've often wondered about this. There are so many posts from people who have received multiple offers but very few from those who only got one offer or perhaps none at all. Is this because they don't want to share disappointing news or because 11+ forum members are more likely to get multiple offers?

Parents with bad news will probably be more focused on what next and concerns for the DC's reaction. Parents with good news have to channel their delight somewhere to avoid boring/appearing too boasty to friends and family
