Increase in registered entrants

I've just received a confirmation test venue email in which they stated they've received 2500 registrations for this year's test. Last year's number was 2150. Is this a big increase? Could it be due, in part, to Crypt going co-ed?

Over the past few years I think it has been around 2100-2400. Increase could also be because 5 of the Grammars have increased PANs in recent years and Crypt will be increasing there intake in 2018. Only Ribston Hall have not and will not be increasing PAN.
