My first son was home tutored and did well enough to get in to a North London grammar school. My youngest is now preparing for the 11+. The particular tutor is not available anymore due to going overseas. So now I'm considering a tuition centre.

I have heard of Axis in Enfield and Best Tutors in Edmonton but a tad too far for travel and the latter I've been told are not the best but that could be a few people's experiences.

I also heard about a new organisation Xrevise.org who are hosting a course in Hackney from this term. Any experience of this company?

Welcome!

We try to keep the forum as safe as possible - we don't allow tutors or tutoring organisations (other than school/PTA and non-commercial organisations) to be openly recommended, because it attracts posts with fake recommendations ('dodgy' advertising solely designed to solicit business on the internet).
It is also not unknown for unscrupulous competitors to 'plant' negative posts, seeking to denigrate the opposition!

Genuine recommendations from forum members by PM only (private message) are permitted - but be aware of the possibility that someone who appears to be a 'helpful parent' offering advice may not be all they seem! There could be an ulterior motive.

Always treat recommendations from unknown persons with great caution.
However, we have many long standing members - check carefully the date of joining and number of posts - who make a very valuable contribution to the forum. If you receive a private recommendation from one of them, it could be worth considering.

Please let us know if you think anyone is abusing the system by soliciting for business or 'spamming'.
It's easy to report a possible problem - just click on the red exclamation mark that appears with every post and PM: Image

It would be helpful if we knew which North London Grammar you were aiming for.

From the location of the tutor centres you are considering I assume it is Latymer.

You have the advantage of having already been through it but your older son may have entered the school via the CEM test and now Latymer is back to VR, Engliish and Maths.

I would not be taking any chances on a new organisation. 11 plus is a one shot with no retakes.

I would be looking for a centre with a proven track record especially as Latymer changed their exam format last year.

If you hang on a few weeks study centres will be able to give you their success rates this year as results for Latymer applications this year will be out in by mid October.

I would want to be able to contact a local parent who used the study centre this year and has a dc who has received the 1 to 186 letter.

I would also want a study centre with a trial period so if the style does not suit your ds you can leave and go elsewhere. DG
