Now that we are top of the waiting list my DD3 is having a wobble.

Anyone with girls already there what are the good things that would appeal to an 11 year old? She is not a girly girl and in fact plays ice hockey for Chelmsford u13’s. She is learning cornet and guitar and loves maths & science.

Ours plays the violin and loves singing, but is also into martial arts, dance and trampolining.
I’ve been following CCHSG on social media. No ice hockey, but the netball team looks to have performed well recently.

By the way, any current parents whose DDs are learning musical instruments via the school-provided music tutors? Is this something you’d recommend? We’re just trying to decide whether to stick with our current teacher or swap over to the in-school tutors.

If she's sporty the PE department will love her. Personally I find the music department lacking (I'm a musician) my daughter had the head of music as her form tutor and he is, erm, well, he didn't impress me at all. She also wasn't a fan of his either.

Otherwise the school is brilliant. It really is a lovely lovely school and there is lots on offer there. I'll try and post one of the pe department timetables they send with the newsletters at some point. There isnt a day without something on

Generally I'd recommend staying with your own music teacher.
At all schools the music lessons are during the school day and therefore disruptive to lessons. Any break or lunch time slots are usually given to older pupils in exam years.
It can add to the stress of starting a new school to miss part of lessons, find one's way etc.

Thanks, would appreciate that. She’s more musical than sporty to be honest, but I see from the school website that there are instrument and choir groups she can join.

Just did another trial run this morning, alighting at Town stn. Just a handful of kids, probably coming from London. I reached school by 8.15!

It was the Chelmsford train that I tried out this morning. Smooth, peaceful journey. I also have the option of another train journey that bypasses Chelmsford and takes less than 30min, so happy days.
