Help - Ilford County Waiting List

Post by arifa130 »

Hello All

The waiting lists are out today and I am really confused looking at what has been provided
My DS is 1 score below the cut off this year - however - on the waiting list his position is 232 but preference order is 1 - can someone help me to understand this.

Hi Arifa - that does sound strange, what was the cut off this year? just having a look at the list of scores on the LEA website to see if I can work it out

Hi Hermanmunster

I have seen you quite active and helpful on this forum - thank you for the selfless attributes

The cut off this year was 108.58 and my DS scored 108.52 - on allocation day I was told by redbridge that both the 108.58 scores were offered places

HELP!!!!

Just looking at the published scores (this is an extract, the link to the document is below - Ilford GS is on the left here ) - that you must be the top score so maybe you were ranked 232 and are now first?

108.66 110.21
108.6 110.19
108.59 110.14
108.59 110.13
108.58 110.12
108.58 110.07
108.52 110.02
108.5 110.01
108.47 109.96
108.46 109.95
108.45 109.91

You can never tell with waiting lists but I would have thought that was pretty hopeful - keep fingers crossed you get some good news

PS if there is a number to call at the LEA then it might be worth calling them to check the wording of the message you got - it is a bit confusing to put it like that

This sounds like the year that the helpful (to coin a new use of the word) admissions people at HBS notified parents that their DD's position on the waiting list was... her position in the original ranking. Added to that, since the school was reluctant to give any indication of how closely the number of places offered resembled the official PAN, even once it had been worked out what was going on, people had to wait for the official notification to be resent.

Toadmum - I would love to understand what you are saying but can not for my ignorance. I have been on the phone to Redbridge - NO ANSWER - in your experience what is the chances for my DS to be offered a place

(Again like hermanmunster I have seen you really giving your time and effort into answering panicky parents)
thank you

No worries - HBS is the Henrietta Barnett School, a girls' grammar in Hampstead Garden Suburb - much drooled over but sadly, an example of a school whose administration when it comes to admissions sometimes appears less than efficient.

With regard to your chances from top of waiting list this early on, in most cases, would be excellent. However, be mindful of the fact that if there are others ranked above your DS according to the admissions criteria, who didn't initially rank ICHS above the school they got, but have now changed their minds, they will be slotted in above him. Also, if you are not offered a place before appeals are held and any are successful, you will be waiting for more than one person to give up their place (the school can only offer from the waiting list once it goes below PAN).

(Also, I am not sure whether they are currently one over PAN anyway, as another poster's DS was initially not offered a place when he should have been, but was after they queried this).
