school buses - DAO and Latymer

Post by railings3 »

Does anyone know if these schools run bus services from other parts of North London?

Looking at both these schools as sixth form options, but the journey from where we are (Crouch End) is pretty challenging. Latymer is definitely 'easier' in terms of journey time but I worry a little about the safety of the area. DAO looks like it would be at least 45 minutes each way. We are very close to Highgate tube but it's a VERY long bus journey from High Barnet, isn't it?

Thanks so much in advance.

A few years ago, Latymer published the intention to run various bus services (there were posts about it on here), but the annual cost to parents was, iirc, £1800 and at least one of the routes more or less duplicated an existing tfl one, but taking 90 minutes from the furthest stop instead of about 60. Which seemed a little odd, given the school's stance on its catchment area being chosen just so that pupils don't spend an unacceptable length of time on their commute.

I don't know whether the service ever got off the ground, but I would not be surprised if the interest was too low to make it viable, given the availability of a virtually free public alternative.

Depending on where in Crouch End they could walk to Hornsey Station and then get the train to Potters Bar. Or bus to Ally Pally.

Don't bank on the 84b bus service from barnet to potters bar, it had been cancelled and has been brought back for a year on trial, it may or may not be extended beyond the year depending on take up.
