Lancashire and Cumbria 11 Plus

The Schools Admissions Code, that came into effect in 2012, stated that by law, schools must take all reasonable steps to inform parents of the outcome of tests before the closing deadline for the Common Application form (CAF) on October 31st.

Cumbria

There is only one grammar school in Cumbria – Queen Elizabeth Grammar School.
In 2015, 215 children sat the test
In 2013, 173 children took the test
In 2012, 239 children took the test
In 2011, 218 children took the entrance test

Queen Elizabeth Grammar School – September 2018 entry

Places 120 in Year 7
Open day 12th July 2017 at 5.30pm – 8pm
School tours will take place from Monday 11th September to Friday 15th September 2017
Closing date for applications School application form: Noon 15th September 2017
CAF – 31st October 2017 to school or online
11+ test dates Saturday 7th October 2017
Test Types Verbal Reasoning, Mathematics and Non-Verbal Reasoning. Multiple Choice (no changes this year)
Examiner GL Assessment
11+ Test Results Results are posted to parents mid October 2017. A child’s test performance is given; but scores and rank order are not disclosed.
Results for children taking the “catch up test” for late applications are sent to parents in January by letter
Pass Mark Test scores of the three papers are combined, age weighted, ranked. Where two or more children have the same pass mark then priority is given to:
1)Children in care
2)Children eligible for pupil premium/service premium
3)Children residing in the catchment
4)Scores of verbal reasoning test
5)Scores of non-verbal reasoning test
Pass marks are variable, with allocations on March 1st each year having been made to children scoring as follows:

Test Types Maths, Verbal Reasoning and English, multiple choice (in that order)
 
Maths – consists of 50 multiple choice questions, 50 minutes.
Verbal Reasoning – 80 multiple choice questions, 50 minutes.
English – 56 multiple choice questions, 45 minutes.
The English paper consists of two extracts with questions, and more questions testing spelling, punctuation and grammar.
Questions are based on the KS2 syllabus. Sample papers

Scores Pupils must achieve a minimum level in each subject. Children are ranked based on their aggregate scores of the three tests
