I understand what you are all saying. I wouldn't necessarily have given my dd this advice. The particular child I mentioned is very very able but relatively slow and pedantic. Maybe the advice worked for her because she could easily answer every question and therefore was bound to score highly if she actually put an answer down. I do understand it's a risky strategy though.

What one character says in line 12 may be contradicted by another character in line 30. Comprehensions are not designed for you to be able to do that or everyone would do it and get great marks. DG
If a child is a slow reader, then in most cases their reading will naturally speed up if they read far more, generally.
