I've heard that when Mr Claughton became chief master, he 'reorganised' the scholarship system at KES (maybe also the AP scheme?). In the system anterior to him, a child could get 100% scholarship. But I have the impression that nowadays, a scholarship would not exceed 50%... Does anyone know?
You are correct the max available is 50%. If KES really want the child then they can push the scholarship upto 50%, and assuming the family have applied for AP then combining the scholarship + AP would mean no fees.

The scholarship pot is smaller in comparison to the AP, so a child would have to really outperform to be given a high %.

Also as Mike pointed out that those on low income can send their child for free based on AP alone.

In summary free place can be obtained by either an AP or AP + scholarship depending on income and childs scores.

KES have limited funds and need to make sure these are used wisely. They need to balance carefully to make sure they maximise their goal of attracting the right number and level of students.

The higher the child scores in the tests and interview will determine how much KES want that child, if the child is exceptional then you may be blessed with no fees, to prevent them from choosing another school.

We all live in hope, not long before we all know our fate.

um wrote:I know that large families (and their 'feckless' parents) have had a lot of bad press recently so I won't labour the point, but as my children grow I do in all honesty wonder how we will manage in a few years' time.
With food costs rocketing, 7 people to feed (5 of them male - and my 13 and 11 year olds, whilst remaining pretty slim, eat far more than me!), we will also be needing 7 mobile phone contracts, 5 child/student bus/train/green bus passes, and, instead of a desk with a PC in the front room, a full ICT suite to avoid the current queues into the late night just to do homework, a specialised internet connection and at least 2 printers. I wash 3 loads a day in my 8kg washing machine and 2-3 dishwasher loads too. 7 people need hot showers and endless pairs of shoes, clothes, coats, bags and stationery supplies. I haven't mentioned University fees and living costs....
When I mentioned this at KES, (OK, ds2 went for interview) it was implied that I could work full time instead of part-time, but quite who would then hold this family together when my husband works 65+ hours a week and the youngest is still 2, I do not know.
Oh Um, oh goodness you do pull a lot in, impressive and tiring to even read about. Congrats to your DS2 getting the KES interview.

Umsusu - Well done, you did take the 'bull by the horns' with the school report - good to get it sorted.

KenR wrote:I may be wrong and there may be other income, but at first sight it look as though the total investments amounted to £4.6M of which £2.2M is KES only. So it looks like KEHS has income from investment £1.2M and KES has £3.4M.
It has to be remembered that KEHS is a much smaller school than KES (552 vs 837 in 2010) so the difference is less than it might at first appear. From the 2010 figures, KEHS actually attracted substantially more bursary support than KES in proportion to number of pupils (£823k vs £1.1m) but substantially less scholarship funding (£96k vs £210k).
