GCSE subjects
How many subjects are the grammars choosing for GCSE?
Just wondering as most private are down to 9 this year whereas Sutton and BVeseys is 10?
Is camp hill higher?
Is there any advantage in taking more than 9?

Re: GCSE subjects
Nope. No advantage, which is why most schools have stopped at 9 or 10. Universities tend to ask for the best out of your top 8 - ditto entry to 6th form is usually a points score out of your best 8 (often with maths/English as a prerequisite too).
The content of GCSEs is much much wider in the new curriculum with vastly more information to learn, so senseible schools are cutting the numbers of GCSEs as it is about quality rather than quantity.

Re: GCSE subjects
DS1 has just started Y10 at HGS and it is 11. Maths, English x 2, Science x 3, and they have to do RE and ICT. They then have 3 ‘own choice’ subjects. There are some pupils who do 10 because they do double certificate science rather than 3 separate exams, but still cover all 3 subjects.
Personally feel it is too many.

Re: GCSE subjects
DS1 is year 11 at HGS he is doing 12 - top set are doing Further Maths as an extra GCSE. I think this is a lot but you don’t get the option to opt out of doing any of them.helen0209 wrote:DS1 has just started Y10 at HGS and it is 11. Re: GCSE subjects
The Sutton booklet mentions 10 and 9 if you have significant extracurricular commitment
Is it possible to just request 9 as easy to manage without pushing the child too much
Any ideas / suggestions
