Yes, I suspect where those 1200 kids are concerned (mentioned in my earlier post), it is a combination of inertia and peer pressure that makes parents put such kids through the 11+ despite them not even having a grammar school listed on their preferences form.

And of course it is this factor which acts as a big drag on the published average pass mark for state schools; a factor which scarcely exists among private applicants......who choose to opt in.

Come to think of it, it'd be nice to work out the pass rate among those state school kids who took the test and had a grammar school listed as their top preference. I suspect we'd back to circa 30%...

Anyone got a calculator ? 8)
