Progress 8 latest school league tables

Post by MrsChubbs »

Anyone in the know want to explain/comment on the new school league tables for Bucks schools?

Slightly less flawed than other league tables ... don't be swayed over your 'gut' feel about a school.

Hello Guest55, long time no post conversations!
Can you explain how they work out the progress? Kids only get tested on English and Maths at KS2 so how do they calculate the progress by using 8 GCSE results? Or am I completely misunderstanding.
TIA.

Page 17 of the guidance [linked below] says:

"A pupil’s Progress 8 score is defined as their Attainment 8 score, minus their estimated Attainment 8 score. The estimated Attainment 8 score is the average Attainment 8 score of all pupils nationally with the same prior attainment at key stage 2 within that cohort.

In 2016, a pupil’s prior attainment is defined as the average of their key stage 2 English and mathematics results, in fine graded levels." [my bold]

There are exmples of how this works on other pages and the National tables used for comparison.

I'm sure this will give you some exciting bedtime reading -

Thank you. As it's dry January might be just what I need to help me nod off. ;)
