Type F - the ones in which you have to insert a three letter word into the string of letters to make a real word. I tell DD to look for the clue in the sentence. This usually works for DD, but not this time as she doesn't drink tea and had never come across the word perforations before!Mel X wrote:I'm probably being a bit thick here but what Q type was the word used in then?

(BTW I can never recall all the "type names" - the only ones that I can identify by name without looking them up are the "dreaded" Type C and Type K, Type Z, and the "easy" type E!)

Ah got it.
Well I shall be adding that to my word box then. Infact just for fun I shall pop a teabag in her box so she sees it and asks me what it's doing there I can tell her.
Another word we did come up with was
Mesh ... when would a child see that ??

My daughter struggled big time with this particular test and here were some of her stumbles...
Accumulate is to
tool mend increase
Diminish is to
darken lessen unlit
Clock is to
tick alarm time
Thermometer is to
temperature ill degrees
Hail is to
cold stones ice
Rain is to
puddles water heat
Pick one word from each which are similar
minister politician monarch
president king dictator
empty partial naive
immature fledgling experienced
dark shade light
spark ignite flame
nimble feeble weak
clumsy smooth agile
I think the problem isn't that any of those are hard words and if they read them in context they would know the meaning of them right away -but as stand alones kids logic doesn't kick in the same.
