Now both sittings of the exam are over, I can finally raise this...

Has the English passage been abridged before?

I should just add that this is his weakest paper so it is possible he's got it wrong!

The text has been abridged before. 2004 Silas Marner is slightly abridged; that is the only one I can think of off hand.
