CSSE result in catchment short by 1 score
Our son appeared for CSSE 11 plus exam. His total score is short by 1 of required score to be considered for in catchment selection. We are truly disheartened and desperately seek your advise.

Welcome to the forum, I am sorry to hear that your son didn't get the score you hoped for. Are you considering appealing? If so then include the school on the CAF and read up all the info we have here, https://www.elevenplusexams.co.uk/advic ... on/appeals concentrating on oversubscription. You will need to also look at other schools where you have a good chance of getting a place and ensure that those are included on the CAF

Have a look at the appeals section here. This should get you started. There have been successful appeals here, but hey are very few and far between. Do you have a good back up?

Just to check - do you mean that you are looking at SHSB / WHSB and your DS got a standardised score of c.302? Or KEGS and he is one down on the historical minimum to get an IC place?
Because in the former case, 303 is the pass mark for all the Southend CSSE grammar schools, in or out of catchment, snd if yhe latter, no-one knows how allocations will actually go in any given year, so he might get in, although the IC cut-off for KEGS is usually around 345.

Yea please we are looking for Southend grammar schools and he got 302. We are in catchment. Do think he still can qualify ?
Thanks.
Thanks.

Not without a successful appeal, no, so you need to name SHSB and / or WHSB at the top of your CAF (both, if you've got enough spaces to make surevthat you include at least one non-selective school that you have a good chance of being offered). You will be refused both on the grounds of non-qualification, but the refusal means that you can then appeal.
If your home LA is Essex County Council (not sure about Southend), you can appeal for any school named but not offered, even if it wasn't offered because you got one of your higher preferences, but it doesn't affect your chances with lower preferences if you put the grammar schools first.
