If you look at the pan for each school you would be able to tell xManana wrote:Who would know and would they tell us!?pushymother wrote:We need a gender break down.....total number break downs are too vagueManana wrote:Is it about 4000 people took the eleven plus and there are about 1000 grammar places?
Re: Does anyone know the competition for places?
Well, it all gets tricky though as we don't know how many of the 4000 were boys/girls. Also, these are the Southend PANs
Shsb 150
SHSG 150
WHSB 154
WHSG 154
But then there's 145 for st Bernard's but I don't know how many are selective
150 for TM and again-am not sure how nany are selective
280 each for shoebury and Cecil and not sure how many are selective.
Not sure about the colchester/Chelmsford schools.

Re: Does anyone know the competition for places?
The problem is that it isn't as straightforward as that. Of those 4000ish candidates, some will only apply for 1 grammar school, others several. Some will also be sitting 11 plus exams in other regions such as redbridge or kent so an essex grammar may not be their first choice and some will choose an indi despite getting a qualifing score. There is also the in/out of catchment issue for some of the schools and not knowing how many of the girls sat CEM for chelmsford as well as the CSSE. So I'm not sure the numbers will help you much.
It is probably time to try to forget about it, or drink more wine!

Colchester county high take 140, CRGS 120. I believe the number of selective places is listed in a document on the CSSE website.

Kegs 120
ChCHS CEM 120

It sounds like about 4000 people going for about 1000 places. So 4 children going for every one. Ish?!

Ok curiosity has got the better of me!
I make it:
Boys 574
Girls 507 plus the 120 at ChCHS
Mixed 48
Total 1249
