It's best to give all opportunites for children. Let him give a try.

Good to know your son is interested in maths. In our school they call the stretch or advanced maths as mastery. If the children have already gone beyond the curriculum, no point in holding them to curriculum.. Need to get them stretch their work.

From Hornchurch, schools in Westcliff , Southend and chelmsford all are reasonable to travel. Many children travel from Ilford and Romford to these schools. Lot of coaches available like Maymist. So, not to worry about travel now. As they grow, they can have a transition from Coach to train.

Having had one experience of having to speak to someone in the Maymist office, I wouldn't touch the company with a bargepole, but each to their own.

Remember that if your DS wishes to, or has to, take part in any activities outside of the normal school day, he will have to know how to get there and back independently, unless you would be able to Lakeland collect him.
