This is an example of how important it is to understand the rules of the game and how simply being bright in English and Maths is not enough. You could be Level Six in Maths and never get to show that brilliance to QE if you are a boy or HBS if you are a girl. You could be capable of creative writing at GCSE level but never get to show that genius to QE if you are a boy or HBS if you are a girl because you dont get through the NVR/VR first round. But even more terrible you could actually spend your saturday morning writing a GCSE level creative writing essay and answering 100% of the Maths paper correctly at Dame Alice Owen and neither paper will be marked because you did not score 115 or over the previous day in the Verbal Reasoning paper.

So those of you who have children who have been top of the class in English/Maths all through primary school beware. It might get you an indie place but ignore VR preparation for the state selectives at your peril. (except Lattimer and their new rules this year of course!)
