Comp Vs Gram
Hi All,
I am bit confused on which schools are called Comp and which are called Grammer
My understanding was : Comp is which takes admission purely on catchment and no tests, But looking at Watford boys grammer school which i assume is a Comp school as per FT ranking but it takes admission tests.
Grammer school takes admission on test basis.
Thanks

Agreed comprehensives take pupils based on residence or religion
Some schools are partially selective and give a proportion of places on academic ability or aptitude in other areas
In some parts of the country there are school with "grammar" in the name but are actually non selective.

Hi Jyoti! Welcome to this forum!
As Hermanmunster says, the names can be as bit misleading. Best to think of (academically) 'selective', 'non-selective' and 'partially selective'.
We live in North London, not far from Mill Hill County which is partially selective. Up the road in Hertfordshire are a number of partially selectives, including the Watford Grammar Schools you mentioned. You may know of two schools in High Barnet: Q E (Boys) School which is selective and, near it, Q E Girls School which is non-selective.
Which area are you in and what are you looking for?

Re: Comp Vs Gram
Notably Enfield Grammar ( a boys school ) is not academically selective.
