Bond Maths Assessment Book 1 (10-11) Paper 4
Hello
This query relates to questions 30-31
These questions are all number squares, row 1 and row 2 totals are different, I thought they had to be the same to work out the missing number in x.
Am I missing something really obvious here?
Question 30
The numbers are in a grid, reading left to right (sorry it's not aligned below)
38 | 34 | 30
42 | 38 | 34
x | 42 | 38
Find x
Question 31
102 | 120 | y
84 | 102 | 120
66 | 84 | 102
find y

Do they have to add up to the same thing?
There is definitely a pattern L - R and up - down (and diagonally, for that matter, but ignore that for a moment).
Do the answers given agree with just finding numbers which fit the pattern in each square?

thanks Toadmum
I assumed that columns, rows and diagonals all add up to the same thing, but doesn't seem so
Answer to 30 = 46
Answer to 31 = 138

It's not a number square like sudoku, it's just a grid.
Question 1:
The same pattern goes across each row.
A different pattern goes down each column.
Both give 46 for x.
Same for question 2.

This is one type of VR, the middle one is average of the left and the right.
Hope that helps.
