Ok, this is the way DS did it.UB is to YF
as OZ is to ??
1. First look at relation between U and Y. He found Y is 4 letters forward to U.
Same with B and F. F is 4 letters forward to B.
Now, apply the same logic to O and it would find S. Look at the answers and there is none starting with S. At this point he switched the logic to...
2. Apply the reflection or mirror logic. He would draw a vertical separation line next to the letter M in the given alphabet. This helps him to see (reflect) both sides of the alphabet easily.
Looked at B and Y. B is second from the start; Y is second from the end.
Then looked at U and F. U is sixth from the end; F is 6th from the start.
From OZ, it is now easy to see Z, the first from the end. To match this choose A from the start.
O is 12th from the end. So 12th from the start is L
Hence the answer is - AL
Hope this helps.

I noticed the usage of 'reverse mirror' in Mike's reply earlier.
I am guessing this is to with the way the letter pairs are given in the question.
UB is to YF - in this the letter B is closer to the start of the alphabet is given in the first part, where as in OZ the letter closer to the end (Z) is given the first part.
Someone can correct me with the 'text book' definition of this.
Sara, if your DS has already grasped logics to workout such types of questions correctly then I would say just leave him alone. Trying to change his mind set at the last hour could be costly.

Hello all, early days for us, as ds2 has his 11+ exactly a year from now, but have been helping out some friend's children for the Tiffin exam, so we are mind-bending with level 4 potency.
I keep on getting my head in a tizzy with Level 4 Paper 13.
TRAP SIRE PEAS RITE
3958 5321 1823
Q11 - what is the word for SIRE
answer: 7938
Where has the 7 come from? I have tried so many methods, and I am baffled. Surely if S was a 7, then there would have to be a 7 in PEAS aswell? yet there is not other number ending with 7.
I am thinking tht TRAP is 5321
Help please..!

I have just bought these papers to do with DD2 (though I'll wait 'til nearer the time). I've had a look at question 11 in Paper 13 Level 4 and it's still the same as JaysDarlin said - as is the answer.
I can't see how you get the answer they give either. Can anyone help?
If it's a typo, what should it read?
