The policy states: "Applicants who have previously sat the admission tests for entry to Year 7 and have scored below the cut-off score are not eligible to be reconsidered again for entry to Years 8 to 11."

I'm not completely clear on what is meant by 'cut-off score' in this context. I think they mean the score required to sit the Stage Two test, not the score required to get a place in Y7, but I could be wrong.

So basically it’s for new entry, b/c score for last candidate is already in Y7 in TGS.

It is possible that some higher scored candidates had other schools as their higher preference. If they wish, they can apply as in-year candidate in later years.

Clause 2.8.5 of the determined admissions arrangements for entry in the academic year 2020-2021 says:
Girls who sat the test and achieved the cut-off score or higher will be eligible to reapply for Years 8 to 11, the process of which is described in the In Year Admissions section below. However, those who sat the test but who obtained a mark lower than the cut- off score will not be considered for a place in Years 8 to 11 at any future time.
The previous clause, 2.8.4, defines the cut-off score:
The Stage Two Test Mark (see Section 3.3.3 below) of the girl with the lowest score who gained a place in the year group before the end of the 2020–21 academic year will be deemed to be the ‘cut-off score’ for that year group.

So, if a girl’s score isn’t quite high enough to be offered a place in year 7, the next potential entry point is sixth form.

Those with either no score (because they never sat the test) or a high score (but who perhaps ranked a different school higher on their CAF or went private) may apply for In Year Admission. In normal times, there would be few vacancies, if any. Who knows what effect the perfect storm of a pandemic, a recession and Brexit will produce...

As far as I know, some years there are no in-year places or less than 3 places available for most year groups.

Thanks, Stroller for the quotes from TGS Admissions Arrangements.
