Having had refusals on an electrical item and on a food hamper I am now very careful to think about what my parcel contains before I go to the post office. I find that "books" seems to work very well  .
I sent a Christmas pudding and some Stilton to Sweden just before Christmas and had no problems. I also sent a little Christmas tree with a battery inside to DD at university and again, no problem so long as the tab thing on the battery had not been removed. I know nothing about boarding schools but cannot a parent visit on a birthday and take the child out for tea or something?
