That is the reason why the IB wouldn't have suited my son, who did Maths, Further Maths (plus an extra AS in maths..), Chemistry, Music and AS Physics - plus General studies which included an element of German and broad humanities/ essay writing/ analysis. Having to carry on with English and a larger component of humanities/ languages/drama or whatever would not have suited him at all and would have decreased the amount of time he could devote to his maths & music (which extended far beyond the curriculum).

Tipsy - this is VERY interesting ( as your posts always are - very good of you to be so forthcoming here!)
Last year we had to choose between two schools ( and you were very helpful with your insights then) and one of the differentiators was the 'A' level/IB issue.
We took advice from numerous sources, and eventually opted for the (leading public) school that still only offers A levels. As our son was 10, we still had 8 years to go (!) but it just FELT to us then that he was more an A level specialiser thatn an IB generalist. (If it were ME re taking after - ahem - years, I would go for IB, but we recognised that people are very different in what suits them - DH would opt for the A level stream, and DS takes after him more than me....)
After six months of independent education (where he has grown and blossomed immensely), this seems to have so far been the best option - BUT - if it changes when he is 16, we will revert to the IB option and move him elsewhere... ( Tipsy - hope you stick around for a while - we may need advice @ 16+...!!!!!!!!!)
Best Regards,
Thea

Thanks Thea and I'm glad everything its working out for DS. That is the beauty of choice and its good that there are fantastic comps like Hockerhill which a pupil at GS could change to in the sixth form if they too felt like changing from IB to A'level.

This site is so helpful in so many ways and, apart from the odd scrap, its blissful in comparison to some of the other awful forums on the internet where mothers are so mean to each other.
