After the short break, you could try bribery... Financial inducements worked with my daughter.
I have a son currently in yr5 and one in yr 4.
When I sit down to do work I usually include them both, (as I figure it'll save me time later :) )
The older one usually happily complies, whilst the younger one makes faces.
I simply say, 'Thats fine you don't have to. I can see you've made up your mind to go to the local secondary.'
Without fail he comes and joins in! A bit of backward logic, but it works for me :D
I also give them computer time, for getting good test results. So would definitely agree, that bribery works too :D
