A good source of KS2 words and rules.Extension activity
u Plural investigations
– words ending in vowels (es unless preceded by another vowel);
– words ending in f (ff add s; f or fe use ves);– plurals that don’t use s at all, e.g. children, men, women, teeth, oxen,
geese, feet, deer, fish, sheep, mice, dice, lice, larvae, antennae, etc.

mad? - I agree with being really annoyed by 'independant' and 'definate' , but what really gets me going is 'grammer'!!

Re: How Do You Spell Yours?
Stationery and stationary. Do they not teach "e" for envelope i.e. stationery these days
Re: How Do You Spell Yours?
My daughter was given both of those words in a spelling test last year, by a supply teacher (stationary and stationery) and the teacher got them the wrong way around! I always teach 'e as in pen' and 'a as in car'.
Re: How Do You Spell Yours?
I would love it if this site censored (in the way that it does some words) the use of the term 'appearing' to describe when a DC is sitting an exam. Or perhaps I should get a life instead...

Fascinating. I have learnt something today. I had always assumed "rooves", but checked Fowler's "Modern English Usage" (published 1926) and discovered that he has much to say about "-fs" against "-ves". For example did you know that "beeves" is correct for oxen but "beefs" for kinds of beef?
On "roof" he gives "no -v forms" .
