Fawley....foy

Beaconsfield.....beckonsfield...(but posh old time locals pronounce the beacon, along with annoying reporters, even though the film studios are there)

My brother says Shrewsbury since he has lived close by and goes fishing a lot with old boys. I wonder when it's change evolved?
Mousehole (Mousel)

Bedworth (Bed'orth if you're local, lol!)

Yes I know them as Slawit and Todmaden.

What confused me on moving down South was Feltham. Near Huddersfield there is a place called meltham, which is pronounced Mel-tham, as opposed to Feltham, pronounced felt-am.

Of course Bradford is pronounced Bratford as far as I know.

I know, I jokingly asked in the village if they dropped all their middle letters too when we were car shopping out that way and got the affirmative! Although I think it sounds more like foyee when they say it.

There are no...I repeat no middle letters in My home village of Bradwell either, although the Milton Keynes incomers believe differently. Bradl is fine by us.

Towcester = Toaster, Bicester = Bister. I am told that locals say Shrewsbury as it is written.

I love these quirky place names - once heard Vange pronounced Vainge ... rahter than as it is spelt.

Beaulieu is a good one too - Bewley - although this area in Hastings is pronounced as it is spelt
