Dancealot forgive me but if she's only 6, which I assume from your wording that she'd be taking the 11+ in four years' time, I wouldn't expect progress to be amazingly quick anyway. That's very young for organised piano lessons/practice unless you are a serious tiger parent . Her hands need to be big enough and her reading ability confident plus things like being able to say the first 7 letters of the alphabet forwards and backwards without hesitating. If it was me (and I made the mistake of pushing too hard too early with my own children) I'd get her to play just a little every day, with you or another adult listening and encouraging, but keep it fun and informal - unless she's telling you she desperately wants to do more. I'd also try to set up a line of communication with the peripatetic teacher in school.
