Change of address legal after joining scondary school
Hi there,
We moved in catchment of grammar school of our choice to secure best position even though marks were quite good for our child. Now when the grammar school has been allotted and our child will sttart school this spetmeber, can we move our house again as we bought a house in nearby town (not the same town where we are right now). Since that will be our own house and we have all legal documents for everything, I dnt think changing home address would be an issue.
Can you guys advise if school will let us change our home address after our child starts school in Sept.
Ta

It does depend on the school as some would investigate this as possible address fraud to secure a grammar school place.

You asked a similar question last year. Did you speak to anyone at Kent County Council at the time?

Are you going back to old address? If not, then change of residence again should not be an issue, if school policies do not require you to be at your current address for a specific time.Rhinoisflying wrote:Hi there,

Would you have got a place at the grammar school, if you had applied from your original address, or from the address that you will be moving to, once your DC has started at the school?Rhinoisflying wrote:Hi there,

If not, then I would be prepared for the school to be just a little suspicious. How long have you owned the house you intend to move to?

This is a bit confusing. If you are aiming at Newstead you just have to be within the 9 mile radius, moving closer makes no difference. If it is a Kent grammar then it depends if you are in one of the defined parishes listed in the admissions document and if they go by score or not eg Dartford Grammar has defined parishes to be classed as in county.
If you are moving about a lot it does risk you having to provide lots of paperwork to show you are not gaming the system.

Thanks guys!
We were renting during grammars and our hunt for house started literally during grammars. We intend to go to the new house we bought recently in the old town. PAper work will never be an issue.
May be we would need to speak to KCC to give clarity.

We have bought the house so shall stay there for life, unless something unfavourable happens.ToadMum wrote:Would you have got a place at the grammar school, if you had applied from your original address, or from the address that you will be moving to, once your DC has started at the school?Rhinoisflying wrote:Hi there,

So, as I understand it, you have rented a house in catchment in order to gain a place for your DC, but now want to move to a house you have bought elsewhere. Is that correct? Would your DC have got the place had you lived in this house which you have now bought? If not I suggest you check the admissions rules very carefully, as others have suggested. The address aspect of qualification is there for a reason, and there is such a thing as admissions fraud.
mad?
