I understand from your post that your daughter has more chance of getting a place in your neighbouring LEA than in yours and also that she would not get a place in your catchment school. If it is the case you are in a very akward situation, but I may misinterprete it.
One way of avoiding disapointment is not to raise the child expectations too high and may be exagerate a little how difficult it it to get in. And also to make it clear that you are proud of their effort whatever the outcome.
