Re: The Sunday Times Schools League Tables 2014
salsa - very few unis offer on points scores - nearly all offer on grades. General studies is not allowed to count in those grades ...
Re: The Sunday Times Schools League Tables 2014
Thank you Guest55. My son will be doing the IB at school, so I don't know how that will work out.
Re: The Sunday Times Schools League Tables 2014
They offer on IB points ... offers tend to be higher than for A level equivalents.
Re: The Sunday Times Schools League Tables 2014
Some for IB are now asking for 6/7 in three core subjects and an overall score.
Be careful when choosing unis with the IB as the scores asked for vary wildly. I came across 32-42 for the same course and only 1 grade different at A level.

Re: The Sunday Times Schools League Tables 2014
Thanks so much. My son is in year 7 and his school would also let him do A levels if the university he aimed at required it.
Re: The Sunday Times Schools League Tables 2014
be careful of IB's IMO
boys generally are not suited to IB exams unless he is a very good all rounder
If he/you have a good idea in which direction he is most likely to take ie more STEM or Medicine inclined A OR PRE-U levels are better

Good to know, thank you. I'll keep it in mind. He is an all rounder and has about 5 professions in mind! So, not defined yet, in my opinion, but science and technology seem to be what attract him the most.

3 (3) The Tiffin Girls' School Kingston upon Thames
4 (4) Pate's Grammar School Cheltenham
5 (6) St Olave's Grammar School, Orpington
6 (27) Tonbridge Grammar School Tonbridge
7 (9=) Colchester Royal Grammar School Colchester
8 (7) Altrincham Grammar School for Girls Altrincham

Re: The Sunday Times Schools League Tables 2014
Athough not top of the league tables (6th place), Tonbridge Grammar was awarded State Secondary Sunday Times School of the Year 2014 (and IB School of the Year). Not sure how they come to decide the school of the year, though I note most of the schools that are ranked higher have received this award in recent years, so maybe they wanted to have a change?

I'm guessing that Durham is not the place to do Archaeology, then, since GS seems to be acceptable for most of the courses there...Guest55 wrote:salsa - very few unis offer on points scores - nearly all offer on grades. General studies is not allowed to count in those grades ...
